To live happily is an inward power of the soul.
- Marcus Aurelius
As many of you know, I have quite the animal menagerie here at the Dumb Bell Ranch...My goats are a big part of that and I recently lost one of my best buddies, Miss Lupin.
Now, most folks don't consider "goats" as "pets," but my thoughts on the subject are "if I name it, feed it and take care of it, then there's no way not to LOVE  it!"
Lupin wasn't the mischief maker that Grady is, she was quiet and loving. She followed me around and we talked a lot.  She was my only female (nanny) goat and that kept us sticking close together too. Her health took a turn over the past couple of weeks and we lost her  on November 7. She fought hard and it just wasn't meant to be for her to stay with us. I am guessing God needed a good nanny goat to take
care of some unruly billies...and she'd certainly be the one for the job. She kept all the boys in line around here!
We have a lot of laughs at my shows, as undoubtedly SOMEONE will always ask about the goats. It does mean a lot to me that folks remember things about my life and even think to ask me about it!
Remember when Buster (that's Lupin's boyfriend) stayed true to his name and broke my nose? Yep. That was a real hoot! HA!  So, I wanted to let you know it was a little (well, A LOT) sad around here for the past week or so as we get used to life without our girl
Lupin. She was a precious to us.
Hug the things you love today....for Lupin.

Thanks!  Annie

5 PM at Dumb Bell Ranch - with the Big Boys!

Hello Everyone!
And HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
I wanted to take just a minute to say THANK YOU to everyone who has passed by this site, those who come to shows and those who are such a vital part of my life...my audience. I couldn't do any of this without you...just know that I know that.

I hope that each of you has a Thanksgiving that is exactly as you want it to be. I hope that you are with those you love and those who love you. I hope your heart is as contented as your tummy! And most of all I wish you peace, health and joy right on through next
Thanksgiving!

I will be celebrating Thanksgiving with my family in Washington, NC. My uncle will be driving down from Ohio, Miss Marah will be driving up from college, my mom and I will be some "cooking fools" and I'm
looking so forward to it. I'm using my friend Miss Mary's wonderful Sweet Potato Casserole recipe this year! PLUS, she gave me a bag full of pecans (I say PeCAHNS, Wayne says "PEECANS"...either way, they're delicious!) to use in the dish! YUM!!! I'm also making a favorite old time recipe of mine...CHESS PIES. I think I'm going with the CHOCOLATE CHESS version this year. I've run into so many people who don't know what CHESS
PIES are...well, they're AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL, SUPER RICH AND JUST PLAIN GOOD...that's what they are! If you read this and want a recipe, let me know and I'll post it. The recipe I use came from my
own great-grandmother's grandmother! Now THAT'S OLD! In fact, the Granny that I sing about in "Granny's Song" gave it to me...and it was HER grandmother's recipe! WOW! Now that's a good recipe that manages to stay around all that time!

Isn't that a special part of Thanksgiving? All the recipes, sights, sounds, flavors, memories and stories that well up at this time of year? I just love it!!!
I hope you love it too and are having a joyous Thanksgiving, making your own memories and sharing the spirit of THANKFULNESS all around!!!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!! GOBBLE! GOBBLE!!!

It IS a beautiful life!!!

Love,
Annie.............singing strains of "Over the river and thru the wood to Grandmother's house we go! The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh thru the white and drifted snow.....oh! Over the river and thru the wood oh how the wind does blow! It stings your nose and bites your toes as over the ground we go!"
